CONTOURS

Contours are everywhere—the graceful curve of a river, the rolling silhouette of distant hills, and even the sweeping arcs of a row of bicycles waiting patiently in Chattanooga. In this photograph, symmetry and structure come to life, a perfect reminder that beauty isn’t just found in nature but in the thoughtful design of the world around us. As springtime breathes warmth into the air, these bicycles whisper of adventures to come, of open roads and the sheer joy of motion. Contours guide us forward, shaping our journeys in ways both seen and unseen.

LOST!

Once a vibrant shade of yellow, Benny the banana lay forgotten in the vast expanse of a Walmart parking lot, lonely and lost. With the bustling shoppers rushing by, he felt abandoned, his hopes of becoming a delicious snack fading with each passing moment. Beneath the gleaming mid-day sun, he dreamed of a home with loving hands to peel him and savor his sweet flavor, yet here he was, a small fruit adrift in a world of asphalt and chaos.

 WINDSHIELD SHOT

Here's another picture that I posted on the Photo Friday website for the Friday September 30 subject #Windhield_Shot. This was a rainy day and I was scouting out locations to film a short video with the drone following Highway 78 into Leeds, passing underneath the train trestle before continuing through town.

 Photo Friday: COAST

Welcome back to the blog. In this post, I am displaying a photograph that I shared on Photo Friday, the weekly photo challenge website. The challenge for this week was #COAST. I assume that the challenge organizers intended this to mean coastline, as in the beach or coast on the ocean. However, I am stretching the meaning of the word coast to include the shoreline. And what do you see at the coastline? Seagulls! And there is no shortage of seagulls far inland, on the shores of Chickamauga Lake. I had to dig a little bit on this one as my photo was taken quite a few years ago at Chester Frost State Park.

 Dad and Mom

#dad
A photo of my dad, LeRoy Howard with my mom Lynette taken in 1954
Obviously I did not take this photo as it was taken a year before my birth but I love this picture of my Mom and Dad.
I've posted this one on Photo Friday for this weeks challenge #dad.

 Photo Friday: Coffee Shop

I'm enjoying a cup of Caffe Macchiato at Costa Coffee in Edinburgh, United Kingdom. These are a couple of shots that I took during a trip that my wife and I made to Scotland. We absolutely loved the Scottish Highlands and I like the two-fisted coffee cups at Costa.

One of these is also posted at Photo Friday, as the challenge for Friday July 19 is #Coffee Shop.

PHOTO FRIDAY - TOWER

This is a night-time shot of the Heidelberg Materials plant in my hometown of Leeds, Alabama. I am posting this one here for the Photo Friday July 5, 2024 challenge "TOWER". If you are a return visitor to my blog  then you know that I love night-time photography. There is something about the light at night that transforms an object or scene, often giving them an almost magical appearance.

 Photo Friday - #Film

This weeks challenge on Photo Friday is #FILM. I tried to think of the last time that I actually shot anything on film and one of my favorite photos came to mind. This shot, from 1974 - 1975,  is of Todd Rundgren and John Siegler at the Boutwell Auditorium in Birmingham, Alabama. The picture was shot using a Pentax K1000 with Kodak Ektachrome film at ISO 1000. I've since digitized the image many, many times and what you are seeing is not the original photograph although I do still have the original negative.

Todd has always been one of my favorite musicians and I enjoy sharing pictures from past concerts.

CityScape - This weeks' Photo Friday Challenge

I love Photo Friday challenges. If you go back through this blog you'll no doubt come to the conclusion that its' sole purpose was to participate in Photo Friday challenges (and you'd probably be right).

Each week Photo Friday posts a challenge word or phrase, with its associated hash tag. Challenges exist as a fun diversion for our members, a chance to creatively interpret the word and seek out photographic situations that embody your independent expression of it.

Photo Friday: Petals

I sort of stumbled across Photo Friday today after a long absence. Several years ago I posted very often but these days it just seems harder and harder to find the time to get out and shoot good photos. This one, taken in my backyard looks like it fits the bill for the Photo Friday topic this week.

Serenity

Early morning on Lake Chickamauga in Chattanooga, Tennessee. I shot this from under the dam on the way to work on morning; all the while thinking to myself that the person in that little boat definitely had the right idea.

I'll post this one on PHOTO FRIDAY also. This weeks' subject is #distant

Blissful

Warm day, cool fountain, playing with friends. It just doesn't get any better than this.

Beantown

My entry for the February 27 Photo Friday subject City Life. I shot this from the Granary Burial Ground in Boston where Samuel Adams, John Hancock, Robert Treat Paine and Paul Revere are buried. Although this was taken back in November I immediately thought of it when I saw the Photo Friday subject.

Self Portrait 2008

I thought that I'd be a bit creative today since it's been a while since I did anything for Photo Friday or Illustration Friday. This is my piece created for the Photo Friday challenge: Self Portrait 2008.

Camping, Trampolines, and Runaway Trailers
